Nurture customer relationships and build loyalty by making your customers feel special on their birthday. A simple email or text can go a long way in showing how much you care.
How does Steer get your customer's birthday?
For the following Shop Management Systems (SMS), you can input the customer's birthday directly into your SMS, and Steer gets the customer's birthday via the automated integration:
- Tekmetric
- Mitchell 1
Do you use a different SMS that allows you to enter your customers' birthdays but has yet to pass this information on to Steer? Or perhaps you store your customer birthdays in another form or database?
Don't worry, we can help! Email help@steercrm.com with a CSV with the following information, and we'll import it into Steer for you!
- Customer First Name
- Customer Last Name
- Customer Email or Phone Number
- Customer Birthday: Month (required), Day (required), and Year (optional)
- Format: YYYY-MM-DD
Step 1: Create a list of customers with a birthday in Steer
Go to Dashboard > Customers in the left navigation. On the right click Filters > Advanced filters.
In the Advanced Filter, select Customer Birthday.
You will see two filters:
- Customer Birthday Search: Filters to customers with a birthday on an exact day(s) ORmonth(s). Best for Outreach One Time campaigns.
- Days Until Customer Birthday (recommend): A dynamic filter based on the interval between today's date until the customer's birthday date. Best forRepeat campaigns sent on your customer's birthday date or month.
Example: 0-30 days until birthday will get everyone who has a birthday in the next 30 days.
Now, create a Dynamic Group that can later be used to create a Campaign Segment.
- Click Filters again
- Click New Dynamic Group
Step 2: Create a Segment using your new birthday Dynamic Group
Go to Campaigns > Active in the left navigation. Under Outreach Campaigns, select New Segment. You may have to scroll to the far right of Outreach Campaigns if you already have many segments.
Enter your Segment Name and click Select Customer Group. There you can select the Dynamic Group you previously created.
More information on creating segments here.
Step 3: Create a campaign in the new birthday segment
In your new birthday segment, click the + at the top to Add a New Campaign. Please see the detailed information on creating campaigns here.
When creating a birthday campaign you can select Birthday from the category list to see a list of templates or start with a blank template.
After selecting a template, finish setting up your campaign by naming it, selecting a number of days after visit (DAV), and a send frequency.
Recommendation: We suggest setting Days After Visit (DAV) to 0 to 730 days (last two years) to avoid sending to customers who have not recently visited.
