How to Edit and Enable Maintenance Reminder Campaigns

Remind customers of routine maintenance to keep your bays full with Steer's Maintenance Reminders.

What Are Maintenance Reminders?

Maintenance Reminder Campaigns allow your shop to remind customers that their vehicle is due for routine services, such as oil changes. You may also know them as Recommended Services (the term used in our legacy platform, Mechanic Advisor).

If your shop is looking to send out follow-ups for recommend services declined at a previous visit, please refer to the  "How to Create a Campaign for Deferred Services" article.

How to Turn On Maintenance Reminders Campaigns

Maintenance Reminder Campaigns are the third section on the campaigns page. Steer has 5 service reminder campaigns that are pre-configured for your shop including:

  • Oil Change
  • Breaks Maintenance
  • Wheels & Tires
  • State Inspection
  • General Maintenance

To turn  on these default campaigns: Go to Campaigns > Maintenance Reminder Campaigns > Toggle On/Off.

How to Update When Your Maintenance Reminder Campaigns Send

Campaigns by default are setup to send 30 days until due and 30 DSD (Days since Due). Shops are able to customize Maintenance Reminders by following the steps below:

Step 1: To update the when a Maintenance Reminder sends, click the three dots on the type of marketing segment you wish to change and update the marketing type accordingly.

Step 2: Within the Marketing Type, you can update the number of days before/after the service is due as shown below.

How to Customize Service Name, Service Intervals, What's Included Text, or Create Custom Services

Step 1: Go to Settings > Communication > Maintenance Reminders

Click "Add Service" to add a service reminder or click on an existing service to edit. There are 4 fields to configure:

  • Service Category Name: This is the name of the service that will show in Campaigns and on the customer's Vehicle Profile page.
  • Source: This is how we Steer will find when the service was last performed on the vehicle. The invoice can be scanned for Keywords or for Parts. Choose one and then add as many keywords or brands/parts as you would like. If multiple keywords or parts are added the invoice only needs to include one for the service to be considered performed. Steer only scans paid invoices.
  • What's Included: This is extra information displayed to the customer in the reminder email and on the vehicle profile page to tell them what will be included when the service is performed.
  • Custom Interval: This determines how often you recommend a service be performed. For example if the interval is 60 days and the service is performed on May 1st, the service will become due again on June 30th.

Step 2: Once the shop creates the a new service, a campaign must be created to send reminders for that service. First, go to campaigns and add a new segment or edit an existing segment under the Maintenance Reminder section.  In segment settings you can choose the services that will be included in the campaign. Once the segment is created, you can create a campaign under that segment.
