How to manage Steer Notifications

Enabling email, text and desktop notifications for new messages, appointment, and review alerts from Steer.

Email Notifications

Receive notice of new messages, appointment requests, and review alerts from Steer's CRM directly into your email inbox! 

Access:

Each Steer user can opt in to Email Notifications while logged into their Steer account by accessing their User Profile

In your Steer account, click Your Name in the Lower Left corner > My Account

Notifications:

Once you are on your User Profile, click Notifications from the Left Sidebar. 

You can turn Email Notifications ON (green) or OFF (gray) for the following: 

  • New incoming email responses from a customer 
  • New incoming text responses from a customer 
  • New incoming Appointment Requests from the Steer Scheduler, Vehicle Profile or Reserve with Google
  • New Reviews from your configured review sources 
    • You can select change to only receive reviews for certain scores. 
  • New Survey Response from a customer

Desktop Notifications 

Desktop Push Notifications from Steer allow you to easily keep an eye out for new messages, appointments, and reviews while you are busy handling business! Keep reading to learn how to easily enable notifications for the items you would like to be notified of.

Access:

Each Steer user can opt in to Desktop Push Notifications while logged into their Steer account by accessing their User Profile

In your Steer account, click Your Name in the Lower Left corner > My Account

Notifications:

Once you are on your User Profile, click Notifications from the Left Sidebar. 

You can turn Desktop Notifications ON (green) or OFF (gray) for the following: 

  • New incoming email responses from a customer 
  • New incoming text responses from a customer 
  • New incoming Appointment Requests from the Steer Scheduler, Vehicle Profile or Reserve with Google
  • New Reviews from your configured review sources

Tip: While toggling items on your browser may pop up a message asking if you would like to allow Steer to send notifications, you will want to click Allow in order for Desktop Push Notifications to work.

Text Notifications:

Text Notifications from Steer allow you to get on top of all new appointments, inbound messages, reviews and surveys by simply receiving a text message from Steer on your phone. A quick reply to a customer now at your fingertips!

Access:

Each Steer user can opt in to Text Notifications while logged into their Steer account by accessing their User Profile

In your Steer account, click Your Name in the Lower Left corner > My Account

In the Profile settings you need to add your Mobile Phone in order to start receiving Text Notifications. 

Once you've added the Mobile Phone to your account - you can enable Text Messages.

Notifications:

From your User Profile, click Notifications from the Left Sidebar. 

You can turn Text Notifications ON (green) or OFF (gray) for the following: 

  • New incoming email responses from a customer 
  • New incoming text responses from a customer 
  • New incoming Appointment Requests from the Steer Scheduler, Vehicle Profile or Reserve with Google
  • New Reviews from your configured review sources 
    • You can select change to only receive reviews for certain scores. 
  • New Survey Response from a customer

 

 

Notification Tips & Troubleshooting:

Note: you will want to ensure browser notifications are ON in your computer's operating system (OS). You will also want to make sure Do Not Disturb is OFF. 

Windows OS: Start > Settings > System > Notifications 

      • Select Notifications to expand and turn ON notifications, sounds, banners, etc. for the browser(s) you are using to access Steer

Mac OS: System Settings > Notifications 

      • Scroll to locate the browser you are using, click on it
      • At the top toggle Allow Notifications ON (select from banners, sounds, etc.)
      • Repeat for other browsers you may use to access Steer

Note: You will want to make sure your browser settings (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) allow push notifications. You may have privacy settings in place that can block the notifications from appearing. It will show you a lock icon in Steer instead of the toggle.

Google Chrome:

      • Click the lock icon in the address bar of your Chrome Browser while on Steer
      • Click to toggle the Notifications switch ON
    • If Notifications does not appear in the lock menu, select Site settings, then select Allow in the dropdown menu to the right of Notifications.

Safari:

      • While in Safari, click Safari in the menu bar, then select Preferences.
      • Click the Websites tab (Notifications tab in older versions).
      • In the left side panel, click Notifications.
      • Ensure that steercrm.com is set to Allow. If not, select the Allow websites to ask permission to send push notifications checkbox.

Firefox:

      • Click the lock icon in the address bar of your Firefox browser while on Steer
      • On the right, click the arrow symbol > beside Connection status.
      • Click More Information then select the Permissions tab.
      • Under Send Notifications, uncheck Use Default and select Allow.

Note: If you are accessing Steer on multiple devices you may need to repeat the above steps from Notifications Tips & Troubleshooting for each device. 

Troubleshooting:

If you aren't receiving push notifications, try the following:

  • Make sure you aren't on an Incognito tab.
  • If enabled, turn off Focus or Do Not Disturb mode on your device.
  • Ensure website notifications are enabled for your web browser.
