Browsers and systems that supports this Use Case:

Browsers:

  • Any Desktop browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, IE, Opera, Mozila, Arc, etc.)

Push Notification when Browser is Closed and/or the Desktop screen is locked.

In order to support this scenario there are 2 ways to approach this, depends on how you want to operate in your shop. Both of the approaches gives the same level of comfort and robustness of using Push Notifications.

Pre-condition: The Push Notification enablement is done as per the Use Case #1 from above

Browser constraints: Works only with native browser which was supplied by default with your operation system (MacOS - Safari, Windows - Edge).

Approaches of the setup:

  1. Browser-only
  2. Steer as a Desktop Application

Browser-only.

Just follow the instructions for the any typical Browser setup from Use Case #1

Steer as a Desktop Application

A Progressive Web App allows Steer to behave like an application on your Desktop machine. It will open Steer as a separate application along with your browser. There are couple of benefits using Steer as a standalone application:

  • You wont get lost in your tabs in the browser while working on multiple different tasks concurrently
  • Less load on your computer
  • Desktop Push Notifications would have a big Steer logo as a source of the notification which will help you prioritize better if you have multiple different desktop push notifications

In order to save Steer as a desktop app - you need to use you native operation system browser (MacOS - Safari, Windows - Edge) as a baseline.

Mobile Phone (iPhone/Android) at any state including lock screen.

To enable Push Notifications on your mobile device and unlock all the great features like having them on a lock screen it is crucial to set up it correctly depending on your operation system: iOS and Android have different requirements in order for Mobile Push notifications to work.

  • iOS - it is required to save Steer as a separate application to a home screen
  • Android - giving browser (typically it is Chrome) permissions is enough, but also could be saved as an application if you want to

Important to understand, that you should either follow the system prompt to give the new application permissions for Push Notifications, or go to your device Settings and update Notifications Preferences for Steer from there.
